Mkohl40 Feature Match @YCS Indy

Saturday, August 6, 2011 Unknown

Jehanzab Siddiqui is 4-1 so far today, piloting the same Deck that we saw earlier in the hands of Austin Herrera: Anti-Monster Beasts. Robbie Kohl is playing Tech Genus Gadgets, packing Ultimate Offering to make the most of Number 39: Utopia. Both of these Decks are making their YCS debut here today, so this one should be fun to watch!

Siddiqui opened the Match with Pot of Duality, revealing Reborn Tengu, Dark Hole, and Skill Drain. He added Tengu to his hand and Summoned it. He Set all five of his remaining cards to his back row.

Kohl had a hand of Red Gadget, Yellow Gadget, Green Gadget, Solemn Warning, Book of Moon, and Solemn Judgment. He Summoned Green Gadget and got Red Gadget from his Deck, then Set Book, Warning, and Judgment.

Siddiqui attacked Green Gadget, and Kohl activated Book of Moon to target Tengu. Siddiqui Chained Forbidden Lance, making his Tengu immune to Book. It slammed into Green Gadget. When Siddiqui tried to use Tengu’s effect to Special Summon another, Kohl Chained Solemn Warning. Siddiqui Chained Dark Bribe, and Kohl Chained Solemn Judgment! Tengu went down and stayed down, but Kohl had just 3000 Life Points left!

Kohl drew another Yellow Gadget. He now had 2 Yellow and 2 Red in hand, with a Green on the field. He had nothing else. He Summoned Yellow Gadget to get another Green from his Deck, and attacked with Yellow and Green. Siddiqui dropped to 4900 Life Points, and in Main Phase 2 Kohl traded his Gadgets to Xyz Summon Number 39: Utopia!

Siddiqui Summoned Pitch-Black Warwolf and Set a Spell or Trap.

Kohl drew Ultimate Offering! He Set it, and ended.

Siddiqui Set a fifth Spell or Trap.

Kohl drew another Yellow Gadget! Unbelievable. He Summoned Yellow to get another Green from his Deck, now holding a hand of 5 Gadgets. He Flipped Ultimate Offering and Siddiqui had no response. Kohl Summoned Green Gadget to search Red, and sent Utopia to attack over the Warwolf. Siddiqui flipped Dimensional Prison to try and banish Utopia, and Kohl detached an Xyz Material to negate his own attack and save Utopia. In Main Phase 2 he Xyz Summoned a second Utopia.

(ALERT! ALERT! Don’t try this at home! Utopia’s effect is a  Trigger Effect, not a Quick Effect. You can tell because it does not say “during either player’s turn”, nor is it an effect you can freely use during the opponent’s turn. Trigger Effects are Spell Speed 1 and cannot be Chained to Spell Speed 2 cards like Traps. This was an illegal play.)

Siddiqui passed.

Kohl drew Mystical Space Typhoon and activated it, targeting Siddiqui’s Set Forbidden Lance. Siddiqui Chained it to target and reduce the ATK of the Utopia with a single Xyz Material. Kohl Normal Summoned Red Gadget (he had nothing left to search), and attacked with Utopia. Siddiqui passed into the Damage Step, and flipped not one, but two copies of Horn of the Phantom Beast! Utopia went down and Siddiqui drew 2 cards. In Main Phase 2 Kohl Summoned another Red Gadget, and Xyz Summoned his last Utopia.

Siddiqui Summoned Reborn Tengu and activated Torrential Tribute! The field was cleared, and Siddiqui Special Summoned his last Tengu from his Deck. He moved to his Battle Phase, and Kohl paid to Set a Red Gadget with Ultimate Offering. Tengu attacked it, and Siddiqui Set 2 cards to his back row.

Kohl drew and activated Dark Hole! Tengu was destroyed and Kohl Summoned Green Gadget, attacking into Dimensional Prison. Siddiqui Summoned another Pitch-Black Warwolf to attack for the win next turn!

Robbie Kohl just keeps drawing GADGETS, and even some slick tricks with Number 39: Utopia can’t save him. Jehanzab Siddiqui takes the first Duel!

The second Duel began moments later.

Kohl had 2 Yellow Gadgets, a Red Gadget, Mystical Space Typhoon, Solemn Judgment, and T.G. Striker. He Summoned Yellow Gadget to get Green Gadget from his Deck, and Set Typhoon and Judgment.

Siddiqui tried to Summon Reborn Tengu, and Kohl negated the Summon with Solemn Judgment. Siddiqui Set 3 cards to his back row.

Kohl drew Mirror Force. He Summoned Green Gadget, got Red Gadget, and attacked with both of his monsters to drop Siddiqui to 5400 Life Points. In Main Phase 2 he stacked his Gadgets to try and Xyz Summon Number 39: Utopia, but Siddiqui negated the Summon with Black Horn of Heaven. Kohl Set Mirror Force.

Siddiqui Summoned King Tiger Wanghu and attacked. Kohl activated Mystical Space Typhoon in response, and then Chained Mirror Force. Siddiqui Chained the Typhoon target, Dark Bribe, to stop Mirror Force! Kohl drew Book of Moon, and King Tiger attacked directly.

Kohl drew Ultimate Offering. He activated the Book to turn Tiger face-down, then Special Summoned T.G. Striker. Kohl Normal Summoned Red Gadget to get Yellow Gadget, then Tuned his monsters together to Synchro Summon Naturia Barkion. Barkion attacked to destroy Wanghu, and Kohl Set Offering.

Siddiqui Set a monster and another back row card.

Kohl drew another Gadget, and Summoned Yellow Gadget to get another Green from his Deck. “It’s really good that you can make Barkion,” remarked Siddiqui, as Kohl searched. Kohl activated Ultimate Offering, and Siddiqui Chained Mystical Space Typhoon to dstroy it. Kohl Set another Spell or Trap, then sent Barkion to attack Siddiqui’s Set Reborn Tengu. That Tengu was destroyed, and Siddiqui Summoned another in Attack Position to block Yellow Gadget. Kohl had 1800 Life Points left.

Siddiqui had 5400 Life Points, and drew to 2 cards in hand with 1 Set Spell or Trap on the field, and Reborn Tengu face-up in Attack Position. He Summoned Beast King Barbaros to attack over Yellow Gadget, then Set another Spell or Trap. He ended with an empty hand.

Kohl drew another Ultimate Offering and attacked Barbaros, destroying it. He Set his second Offering, then Set a Gadget.

Siddiqui attacked that Gadget next turn with Tengu, and Set a monster himself.

Kohl drew Monster Reborn! He took brief stock of his opponent’s Life Points (4800), and activated Reborn to target Barbaros. Siddiqui paid 2000 Life Points to negate Reborn with Solemn Warning. Barkion attacked over Reborn Tengu, and Siddiqui couldn’t Summon another. Kohl Set a monster. Siddiqui Normal Summoned King Tiger Wanghu and attacked over Kohl’s Set Green Gadget. Kohl attacked over Wanghu with Barkion, and Set another Spell or Trap. Siddiqui conceded moments later.

Robbie Kohl makes an early commitment with a big Solemn Judgment, then capitalizes in the mid-game with a huge Naturia Barkion! Barkion and some tight defense quickens the pace and leads Kohl to even the Match score to 1-all.

Siddiqui Summoned Reborn Tengu and Set 5 cards to his back row!

Kohl had Smashing Ground, Pot of Duality, T.G. Rush Rhino, Mirror Force, Solemn Warning, and Solemn Judgment. Duality revealed Green Gadget, Mystical Space Typhoon, and Red Gadget from the top of Kohl’s Deck, and he took Red Gadget. He Summoned it, and Siddiqui Chained Skill Drain to negate Red Gadget’s ability. Kohl Set Mirror Force, Warning, and Judgment.

Siddiqui attacked with Reborn Tengu, and Kohl flipped Mirror Force. Tengu was destroyed, and Kohl activated Solemn Warning to negate its effect. Siddiqui Chained Solemn Judgment, and Kohl Chained HIS Solemn Judgment! “Oh my god,” groaned Siddiqui, smiling. “That’s ridiculous! Again!?” He Set another Spell or Trap to finish out.

Kohl drew Yellow Gadget, and Summoned Rush Rhino. Siddiqui responded with Torrential Tribute. In the End Phase, Kohl used Rush Rhino’s effect to search his Deck for T.G. Striker.

Siddiqui drew and Summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh, attacking to lower Kohl to 1100 Life Points!

Kohl drew another Red Gadget! He activated Smashing Ground to destroy Thunder King, then Summoned Red Gadget, attacking for 1300 Battle Damage. Siddiqui had 2200 Life Points to Kohl’s 1100.

Siddiqui activated Smashing Ground, drawing and playing it.

Kohl drew Dimensional Prison. He Summoned Yellow Gadget and attacked into Siddiqui’s Prison, then Set his own.

Siddiqui drew and Summoned Pitch-Black Warwolf! He attacked, and Kohl removed Warwolf with Dimensional Prison! The Warwolf’s effect was negated by Skill Drain, so it was vulnerable.

Kohl Summoned Striker to attack for 800 Battle Damage, and Set a Spell or Trap.

Siddiqui Set a Spell or Trap.

Kohl drew Creature Swap and attacked with Striker again to drop Siddiqui to 600 Life Points. He Set Swap.

Siddiqui flipped Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Kohl’s Dimensional Prison and Set a card to his back row.

Kohl attacked with Striker, and Siddiqui kept himself alive with Forbidden Lance, briefly lowering Striker’s ATK to 0! Kohl Set a second Spell or Trap.

Siddiqui Summoned Beast King Barbaros! “I’m going for it!” He attacked, and Kohl revealed his 2 Set cards: Creature Swap and Ultimate Offering. Neither were any help, so Barbaros hammered damage through Striker and won the Match!

Both Duelists congratulated eachother on what they called a “terrifying” Match, and Jehanzab Siddiqui moves on with a 5-1 record! Three Rounds remained in Day 1, with nothing but the Playoffs tomorrow!
