Trading Season

Today I thought I'd cover what I like to call Trading Season. Trading Season comes around twice each year and only when the Limited and Forbidden List is around the corner. Any of you expert traders out there are probably aware of this by now, but prices tend to fluctuate due to the hype of things coming on and off of the list. For example, Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning was in this years Gold Series 4: Pyramids Edition and as a result a lot of hype and rumors have started to spread regarding whether or not Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning was coming off the list. As a result its value has been all over the place, ranging between $8 and $15. This is only it's pre-Ban List value. Should it come off the list it's value is likely to double, at least.

There is another thing that hints to a few other cards possibly coming off the Ban List. Specifically Rescue Cat. The Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championships are right around the corner, just as the Ban List is. As we are all aware the priority ruling is still in effect, however Japan doesn't have priority anymore. This means one of two things; one being that Japan temporarily will have priority for the World Championships and two being that the TCG loses the priority ruling. I mentioned Rescue Cat because without priority, Rescue Cat becomes easier to stop. Cards like Chain Disappearance and King Tiger Wanghu become able to stop Rescue Cat. This is also part of the reason why Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning might be coming off the list, because like Chaos Sorcerer it won't be able to prioritize it's effect that banishes a face-up monster on the field. This means if the TCG loses priority, there is a chance some monsters that are banned could come off the Ban List.

Are you lacking a Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier? Well the Ban List acts as a coin, and with every coin there is two sides. Just as cards can come off or down on the list, they can also go on or up on the list. Japan's Ban List has Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier limited, and since the TCG Ban List usually reflects off of Japan's Ban List, Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier has a 99.9% chance of being limited in the TCG. What this means is that if it does get limited, it's value is surely going to drop. That means that when Trading Season comes around, trading off cards that may be hit to get cards that will likely go down on the list could in the long run prove useful. Trading off a Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier for around $50-60 or so would be very wise, especially with it's high chance of being limited come September. Another example of a card that is likely to go on the list or up on the list is Dewloren, Tiger King of the Ice Barrier. The reason for this is because in Japan they have Elemental HERO Escuridão. Thanks to Elemental HERO Escuridão they can loop Future Fusion over and over by activating it, sending an Elemental HERO and a DARK monster from the deck to the Graveyard. Usually the DARK monster that they send is Blackwing - Zephyrus the Elite, which allows them to return a face-up card on the field to special summon itself back to the field. Meaning they can readd Future Fusion to their hand and proceed to start abusing the power to loop Future FusionFuture Fusion is looped later on in their turn, assuming they have done everything correctly, with Dewloren, Tiger King of the Ice Barrier and various other cards that set up plays with cards like T.G. Hyper Librarian and Level Eater. There's even an OTK with it using Tempest MagicianDewloren, Tiger King of the Ice Barrier is another card that is likely to go on the list this September, that or Future Fusion will likely wind up banned. Either way with the rumors being spread around and all the hype, it's value is sure to decrease, moving cards like these now is highly suggested if you wish to profit off of a card that is likely to drop in value.

When the Ban List rears its head, it becomes time to start some serious trading. Because if you don't there's a likely chance you'll lose out on the chance to possibly profit and be left with cards that are now harder to move. When the Ban List comes around you need to look into what rumors are being spread, consider what may go on and off of the list, it may help you get ahead in the long run.

  • Wow, I didn't know Dewloren had other uses with HERO related decks; same with Zephyros. Care to explain more on it? Also, you're right about trading off mostly everything but for me, I'd rather keep some for personal collection and that's why I kept BLS-EOTB for a long, long time.

To people like Robbie, they already know about the Dewloren loop. There's probably videos about it with Elemental HERO Escuridão. Robbie my have put up a video himself, not entirely sure though.
